How to Design Pins with Tailwind Create
Once you’ve signed up for your FREE Tailwind Create account using your Pinterest account, the platform will guide you through all the steps to creating Pinterest pins.
Even if you’re a newbie and not at all tech-friendly, Tailwind is intuitively designed and you’re guided step by step from adding your branding to downloading or scheduling your pins.
To complete your pin designs as quickly as possible, there are a few things you want to figure out BEFORE you start.
#1. Sign Into Tailwind, Then Navigate to Create
Log into Tailwind, then from the Dashboard navigate to Create by clicking the “paintbrush” in the left-hand navigation. Then, click on “Start Creating Now!” to launch Create.
If this is your first time using Tailwind Create, you will have to accept the Terms & Conditions. Be sure to read them, and make sure you understand what you’re agreeing to.
⚠️ The most important (in my opinion) is that you’re affirming that you will only use images and fonts that you are legally allowed to use. So, no stealing images from Google search or uploading fonts that are NOT free for commercial use.
If you’re worried about this, just make sure any images you use you either take yourself, download images from a copyright-free website like Unsplash, or buy paid stock photo membership from Pixistock, IvoryMix, or Adobe Stoke.
But as you’ll see soon, Tailwind Create comes preloaded with loads of fonts and images to choose from, no uploading required.
And you’re in and beautiful pins are just a few steps away! From here you can watch Tailwind’s 5-minute welcome video, or read this guide to know exactly what to do.
#2. Personalize With Your Branding
Tailwind Create starts off by asking you to set your branding. This way the pin designs it creates for you can have some consistency and match with your existing content and pins.
Branding is easy! All you need is to decide on your fonts and colors (if you haven’t already). The hardest part is deciding. But, once you do, you never have to think about it again (unless you want to).
If, you can’t decide, or you’re not sure, then make use of the font pairings and curated color palette’s available to you in Tailwind Create. You can test out different ones until you find a combination you love.
A few tips to optimize Pin personalizations:
- Remove the “www.” from your website, it’s unnecessary, or test out your domain name in all caps instead
- If your brand font isn’t available in Tailwind Create, select a similar one (you can use a tool like Identifont to help you), since uploading fonts is a paid feature
- Import your brand colors using their HEX codes (#XXXXXX) so it’s identical across all your brand presence (social media, blog, website, graphics)
- Don’t upload a logo, Pin designs with logo always look too crowded, or use the icon version of your logo you’ve likely set as your website’s favicon (see examples below).
And no stress, these choices are not permanent you can change them at any time or just “Skip for Now,” then again. But, if like me you’re happy with your Pin personalizations, click “Save and Continue.”
You’ll see that I couldn’t find my brand fonts in Tailwind Create 👀 (I will upload them later when I upgrade to a paid plan) so for now, I choose fonts with a similar vibe.
You’re now ready to choose your first piece of content to create pins for.
#3. Choose Your Content
Tailwind Create designs Pinterest Pins instantly for one piece of content at a time. That could be a blog post, a product page, or even a freebie of some sort.
Choose a destination link that you need to design pins for. A pro tip is to focus on content that is timely, seasonal, brand new, or already popular on Pinterest. You might as well get the most out of these pins. 😉
- Paste in your content’s destination link (example “https://yourblogname.com/post-title-here”)
- Let Tailwind Create automatically fill in your post/page title, then edit it if needed
- Upload your photos, search and select stock photos available in Tailwind Create, or use site photos (pulled from your destination link)
- Select at least three images

When trying to find the best stock photos avoiding searching for emotions and focus on actions instead. For my blog post on the benefits of yoga, I simply searched “yoga” and found so many perfect images.
With your destination link, title, and photos all set, click “Create Images” in the bottom right corner. Then, be prepared to be amazed at the magic of Tailwind Create! ✨
#4. Let Tailwind Create Design Pins
With so many pin designs to choose from and customize in Tailwind Create, let the fun part begin!
On the right-hand side, you can play with your design settings. Seeing what everything looks like you, you might want to add new images, swap fonts, change your title or add a subtitle.
In the top left corner, you can filter the designs by content type, industry/niche, or pin format. I highly recommend you use this feature instead of scrolling for days through more pin designs than you can count (I tried, there’s over a hundred 😳 ).
To not get overwhelmed or lose a design that you love, use the favorite feature to “heart” the designs you like best. On a free Tailwind Create Plan, you can save and view ten favorites (you can heart more, but you can only see ten until you upgrade).
Just hover over the design you like and click the heart “❤️” in the top left corner of the pin image. After you’ve found ten designs you like, you can access your favorites by clicking on “Your Favorite Designs” in the top-bar.
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, not every single design that Tailwind Create comes up with works. For some pins, the font sizes are off, or the images are not aligned properly. For me, I found my domain was too prominent and the titles were simply not big enough.
But, that’s okay because Tailwind Create comes with a built-in Pin Editing Tool, too! You’re going to work closely with your ten favorite designs, editing to fit your content, and then save them as templates you can use over and over again.
Pick your favorite ten designs and then let’s make them into perfect Pins in the next step. See my top picks below.
#5. Customize Your Top Pin Designs
Time to roll up your sleeves and start working on your pin designs. Tailwind Create has gotten you this far, now it’s time to help out a bit. Do this right now, so, for your next batch of pin designs, you won’t need to.
Navigate to “Your Favorite Designs” in the top bar of Tailwind Create. Before you begin, you can refine your selections by removing any designs that you’re not into anymore or perhaps are too similar to others you’ve favorited.
A. Try on Different Looks
Choose the pin you like the best and let’s customize it. Click on “try on different looks” to test out the other colors and images with this design. This may be all you need to do to make a design work better.
If you’re satisfied with a template you can click on “+ Select”. It then flags this design as one of your pin designs for this month (remember, free Tailwind Create plans get 15 pin designs per month). Don’t worry, it doesn’t count officially, until you download or schedule this design.
B. Edit Pin Designs
For the rest of your selected pin designs, you’ll need to edit them more closely. To launch Tailwind Create’s pin editing tool, click on the “Edit” button right below any pin design.
You’ll be able to fix your Pin design with just a few changes like:
- Minimizing the size of your brand’s website or name
- Moving your website/name’s position
- Maximizing the main title text as much as possible
- Moving or realigning the subtitle text
- Changing to color font of your website or subtitle
- Adding a secondary color from your color palette
- Customizing the pin title and subtitle
Click on “Edit Pin” to launch the Pin Editing Tool. Play around, move the text, images, and other layers until you’re happy with your design.
For your brand’s website or name, it’s best to have it at the bottom of your pin design. If you’re changing this font size, then use that new size on all your designs (I’m using font size 40, with 100 letter spacing).
To customize a layer (element, photo, or text), simply click on it and the edit panel will appear on the right-hand side (see below). You can multi-select layers and also use your keyboard to move them up, down, left or right.
If there’s a design you love, be sure to click “Favorite This Design” to be able to easily access it later.
You can also add Text (including a Call to Action Button), Elements (like shapes and arrows), or more Photos from the buttons on the left-hand side.
More about Elements in Tailwind Create

At look at Before and After Editing Pin Designs
How do your pins look after a little bit of nip and tuck with the editor? Isn’t it amazing what resizing font and changing colors can do?
Here’s a look at a few of my pins before and after editing. The changes are small and mostly subtle but they make a big difference with the final image. Wouldn’t you agree?
With your Pin designs finalized, it’s time to review your top choices before downloading and scheduling them.
Click on “Review Your Selections” in the bottom right hand corner to see all the top pins that you’ve selected. How do they look?
#6. Download or Schedule Your Pins
Ready to schedule your pins to Pinterest? You can do all of that with Tailwind! You don’t have to download your pins or use another tool. That what makes Tailwind so special, you can do it all in one place.
If you’re going to schedule multiple pins to the same content, be sure to space out your pins. Do not schedule them all on the same day (or even week) to the same board.
⚠️ If all your designs are similar (like my examples below), then be sure to spread out your pinning. For my own, since I have so much content anyway, I’ll share one per month.
When you click “Download” each pin design counts as 1 of your 15 free pins per month. Same counts for clicking “Go Schedule.”
Here’s what happens when you click…
- Download, it saves all your selected Pins to your computer as a 1,000 x 1,500 pixel JPG.
- Go Schedule, it adds all your Pins to the Drafts Tab of the Tailwind Scheduler
- On the “X” in the top right to close Tailwind Create, your Pins are saved until later
If you’re not ready to schedule or download these pins at this time, you can actually just close Tailwind Create and come back later. Your pins will be safe and waiting for you when you return.
There you have it! Your guide to using Tailwind Create to design multiple fresh pins in just a few clicks!
